Avoca Hockey Club is a vibrant hockey club in the South of Dublin. Formed in 1895 we are one of the oldest and biggest clubs in Ireland with c. 650 members and countless volunteers.
The clubs main pitch is at Newpark Comprehensive School on Newtown Park Avenue in Blackrock. The other two pitches that we use to cater for our burgeoning membership are at the Dominican College Sion Hill on Cross Avenue in Blackrock and at Loreto College Foxrock.
Avoca Hockey Club is both a competitive and community club affiliated with Leinster Hockey and the Irish Hockey Association.
Our aim is to provide a fun, inclusive, competitive, safe and social environment in which players of all levels of hockey can develop their skills whilst also enjoying this great port!
Our 3 mens squads currently complete in Leinster Hockeys divisions 1, 2 and 6 whilst our 5 ladies squads currently compete in divisions 1, 3, 5, 9 and 11. On top of competing in the Leinster leagues our Senior squads also compete annually in various Irish Outdoor and Indoor cups.

The Club was reformed in 1929 and has been homed in our grounds at Newpark since 1936. With the opening of Newpark School in 1973 the growth of the club was phenomenal, with just 4 Mens teams in 1972 expanding to 8 Mens and 4 Ladies teams by 1976. Avoca was a dominated Leinster Hockey in the 90’s, boasting 36 full Senior Outdoor International Caps and 7 Indoor Caps, as well as capturing the Irish Senior Cup in 1996. The 2000’s brought about a restructuring and re-growth period in Avoca and in 2006/07 the Club completed their new state of the art water based Astro turf pitch. Currently the club has 3 Mens and 5 Ladies sides with the Mens 1st XI completing the double in the 2011/12 season, finally regaining Division 1 status for the coming season.
